How to uninstall Windows Update KB2823324

In an imperfect world, Microsoft has released a Windows Update file that can interact with some third-party software and cause problems for some Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 computers. Microsoft has taken this update, KB2823324, out of the Windows Update system, but not before it was downloaded and installed on many computers.

Microsoft recommends uninstalling this update.

The update can cause the dreaded, “Blue Screen of Death” (BSOD) on computers that have been rebooted. It can cause machines running Kaspersky Anti-Virus to prompt to run the CHKDSK utility. Kaspersky documents the problem here:

Microsoft documents the problem here, including steps to uninstall the update:

If you have a computer that is running fine, you can remove the update by pressing the Start button in the lower-left corner of the desktop, type “cmd” in the search field, and pressing the <Ctrl>+<Shift>+<Enter> keys simultaneously to open an elevated Command Prompt window. (An elevated Command Prompt window will display “Administrator: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe” without quotes in the bar across the top.)

It will appear like this.

In the elevated Command Prompt window, type “wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:2823324 /quiet /norestart” without the quotes and press the <Enter> key.

Close the window.
